Sorry that the site has been down for so long
I apologize that Silver Fingernails has been down for almost three weeks now. It seems that someone must have really loved some images from this site, because over a period of several days, they were hotlinked on hundreds of different Chinese websites and forums.
Everytime a photo is viewed on one of those sites, it is requested from OUR host’s server. We were suddenly getting hundreds of thousands of hits from computers all over China requesting these images at an unbelievable rate. I blocked image hotlinking on this site, but there were still so many hits coming at once, that it crashed the server and our host had no choice but to temporarily disable the site.
Even now, after several weeks of being down, we’re still getting bombarded with image requests! Lets hope it has died down enough that the site can stay up for good. But if you see the site down again, you know the reason why. Sorry for the trouble!

Yeah, I couldn’t believe it when I checked out all the sites hotlinking me…and yes, each one was in Chinese and the IP hits were from all over China. Here is one of the culprits: 22kao.com
I can’t even imagine how much traffic that site alone is getting on a daily basis. To give you an idea…my photos were hotlinked on a post in that site back on 8/29/07. By now that post is deep and buried somewhere in the site. Yet today, I still received over 2000 hits from that site alone!
Now multiply that by 100’s of similar sites, and you can see how insane this whole thing was. It was brutal. But luckily, the site is back up and still hanging in there.
Anyway, sorry I haven’t updated yet. I’m working on a new project…bringing my Asian Fingernails gallery site back to life. I hope you will enjoy it when it’s up and running. Of course, I will post about it on the blog as soon as it’s ready. Hopefully in a couple more weeks!
